Throughout the month of April, Enforcement Services will be checking up on pet owners to make sure they have their dogs on a leash in public areas.
“In the city, a dog needs to be on a leash when it’s not in a designated off-leash area or on the owner’s own property or permitted property,” explained Sergeant Ross Gear.
There are designated off-leash areas in the city, including in Crystal Ridge, Royal Oaks, and South Bear Creek.
“When you are using one of these areas please keep your dogs on their leash when you are coming and going from the site. Please pick up after your dog, waste bags and garbage bags are provided in these areas. And bring water for your dog, if they’re our running around they might get very warm and we want the animals to be safe.”
Gear adds whether someone will be given a warning or a fine will depend on the situation. The fine for having an animal running at large is $100.
