Investigators are back at the scene of a house fire early Saturday that destroyed a home that was under construction. The house was being rebuilt after it went up in flames last August.
Acting Platoon Chief Todd Russell says the fire does stand out, they don’t usually see two fires at the same location within this close of time frame.
An investigation is underway now to rule out arson and the possibility it was started by squatters.
“We do investigate every fire for cause, and of course arson is one of the causes we have to rule out, so we are looking at this one no differently,” Russell explained. “As far as this particular residence, we’re going to have to find out from witnesses and take a look at what’s left on scene to see if we can determine if (squatters) could have been a cause.”
Russell says typically they can wrap up an investigation in under a week, unless they come across something they need to look into further.
When firefighters arrived at the fire, just before 3 a.m. Saturday the structure was fully involved, but they were able to save the neighbouring homes. Russell says there was some minor heat damage to them, but they’re repairable.
