Grande Prairie’s, Tom Sallows is proud to be apart of the team which took the gold in the World Men’s Curling Championship.
Sallows was on Brad Gushue’s team, which beat Sweden 4-2.
Sallows said the only disappointing part of the win, was not getting more time with the trophy.
“We got the trophy for about five or six minutes, when we were standing on the podium. We got to take a couple pictures with family members on the ice right after and they boxed it up pretty quick and it got taken out of our hands…it was a little disappointing to be honest, it’s something the guys worked their whole life for and they boxed that trophy up and got it out of there.”
He adds, it was an amazing honor to be apart of the team and winning the gold, along side his close friend Geoff Walker from Beaverlodge.
“I grew up playing with Geoff Walker and he was always one of my best friends growing up…we always dreamt of getting there…whether we were playing together or not. I know he has been knocking on the door for a few years and I came close with the other team two years ago when we got the bronze as a fifth man with them as well. It’s really good and a dream come true to do it along side him.”
The team won the championship with a perfect 13-0 score.
