Thanks to a $750,000 grant from the provincial government, through their Community Facility Enhancement Program, the expansion to the Bezanson Regional Community Cultural Centre is now up to $3 million in funding. That accounts for nearly 80 per cent of what they’ll need.
The Bezanson Agricultural Society is now only $500,000 from their goal.
“We have the support of the provincial and municipal governments now, and it’s just a really big deal for us,” said Laura LaValley, Capital Campaign Manager.
They are currently shopping the naming rights to the building, in hopes of obtaining the remaining funding needed.
“Now that they know that it’s substantially funded, I think we’re going to see that people are much more motivated to help us out with topping it up from here,” LaValley said. “(There will be) a 16,000 square foot expansion on the existing hall. This will include a large auditorium to seat 400 people, sporting change rooms, a commercial kitchen and bar and a really nice, big lobby.”
The County of Grande Prairie has already funded $1.84 million towards the project.
They hope to start construction this fall.
