City Council is considering approving a $4,492,500 tender to Monteith Building Group for the Bear Creek Pool renovations.
The pool design will include a splash feature and a toddler play area.
Recreation and Sport Manager Kylee Haining says there will also be a water slide.
“The last design that was presented to council is what is in the tender, as well as the option for a water slide option A, we brought three suggested water slides and council picked tender A, and the tender came in and will include that water slide,” said Haining.
She says the initiative will be a great addition to the region.
“I think it’s really exciting for the community, its design is around summer respite and with us being the youngest community in Canada, I think it’s just fabulous for the community to have a place to play outside in the water.”
She says, construction would take 40 weeks and if approved would be open to the public by the summer of 2018.
The pool was built in 1962, but because of cracking in the basin, it has been closed since 2013.
