A well-placed shot from a Grande Prairie Fish and Wildlife officer’s rifle may have saved the lives of a pair of elk.
Fish and Wildlife says on it’s Facebook page that two bulls were found with their antlers tangled together after the pair got into a fight earlier this week.
An officer shot off a piece of antler, freeing the animals.
One ran off right away. The other stayed back for awhile to catch its breath.
Officers say they could not use tranquilizers because it was too cold and could not take a hands-on approach because the elk were still fighting.
