Police in Jasper have a 41 year old Grande Prairie man in custody after a high speed chase late Thursday night that eventually ended with a spike belt being deployed.
Mounties originally pulled over a driver on Highway 16 suspected of speeding and impaired driving.
But after an altercation with police, the suspect escaped in his vehicle.
The car was spotted again a short time later on Highway 93, where it was finally stopped and an arrest was made.
Philip Jason Mannix faces a total of 12 charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and causing bodily harm, flight from police, two counts each of impaired driving, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with a court order.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
