The Keyera Corporation is bringing a major project to the Peace Region.
An acid gas injection plant, with a price tag of $600 million, will be erected in the MD of Greenview.
The project will take between 24 and 30 months to build, and the acid gas will be injected into the Leduc reservoir.
“When you have these major industrial initiatives, it isn’t isolated to one municipality. There’s going to be all kinds of ripple effects, and the whole region is going to benefit,” said Dale Gervais, Reeve for the MD of Greenview. “Grande Prairie, both City and County, are both going to be recipients of economic growth.”
“It’s taking the H2S out of the natural gas, so that it’ll meet pipeline specifications.”
An industrial park is also being planned for the MD of Greenview. Gervais says this is totally separate from that project, and will be located about 40 kilometres south of Grovedale.
Up to 500 contractors will be used during the construction of the facility, and the hope is the majority of those contractors are local.
When the plant is done, it will employ 17 full-time staff with a $9.8 million annual operating budget.
The Keyera Corporation is an Alberta-based company.
