ATCO is reminding people to watch for both overhead and underground power lines.
Manager of Distribution in the South Peace Larry Gibson was among those teaching farm safety to 600 local kids this week as part of the Barnyard and Boots program.
“Not all power lines are above ground, (there are) underground power lines as well and if they’re working building a fence, or doing anything where they’re going to be excavating on the earth, that they call in locate requests and find out where the line is so they can work safely around it if they have to do any work.”
Gibson is also asking farmers to watch for overhead lines when moving machinery.
“It’s a busy time of year for the farming community, so lots of activity out there, lots of big equipment moving around and every year, equipment seems to get bigger and our lines stay the same. So, we want to make sure people are aware that they stay safe around those facilities and they know what to do and call us if they need help.”
