PACE is putting on the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event today, in hopes of generating money and awareness for those affected by sexual violence.
Fundraising coordinator for PACE, Buffy MacIntosh says it isn’t just women who suffer from sexual violence.
“It affects families, it affects children, it affects men,” she said. “We have programs and support services for everybody who is affected by sexual violence. We have sexual violence treatment programs, we have child abuse treatment programs. The repercussions of experiencing sexual violence can be very long-lasting.”
The event runs from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Community Village parking lot, and you can register when you get there.
“We will have special guests from the city, and the mayor will be doing a proclamation for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which is the month of May. Then we will have a bunch of people in high heeled shoes walking a mile in support of victims of sexual assault and sexual violence,” explained MacIntosh.
They raised $35,000 last year and are aiming for $60,000 this time around.
