A large collaborative art piece to honour the missing and murdered indigenous women is expected to be at the Grande Prairie Art Gallery in June of next year.
“The bundle itself consists of over a thousand vamps and what the vamps are, are a symbolism of an unfinished life. If anyone has ever seen or have been gifted moccasins, they have beautiful bead work on the top of it.” says spokesperson Omarla Cooke.
A community conversation is set for tomorrow at the GP Friendship House tomorrow evening from 7 to 9.
The focus of the event is to search for volunteers.
“We want as many volunteers as we can possibly get and so what Thursday is going to be is kind of like our volunteer draw. We are asking people who are willing to come and volunteer for us, to come and find out a little bit more of what that volunteer looks like, how they can help in different areas,” says Cooke.
She says there will be a silent auction to raise funds towards transporting the installation to the community.
