It looks like a new cheerleading room is coming to the Crosslink County Sportsplex.
County Council approved $36,250 for the renovations last week.
“What we’re planning is, the viewing area above our fieldhouse at the Crosslink County Sportsplex, to build a room. It’s about 19 feet by 48 feet in dimension. It’ll overlook the fieldhouse, and this group has come forward, Adrenaline Athletics, with what I think looks like a pretty good proposal,” explained Arlen Miller, Director of Community Services for the County of Grande Prairie.
Adrenaline Athletics has come forward with a five-year proposal to run the cheerleading room, and construction will begin once a lease is officially signed. Miller believes work will begin in a few weeks.
Adrenaline Athletics will also bring forward $18,000 for new flooring.
“It is a growing sport elsewhere as well, and there’s some indication apparently it could be an Olympic sport down the road,” Miller said. “It’s very exciting that we could be the first facility for such activity in the area.”
Miller adds it should take about two years for the County to recover their $36,250 investment, and expect to turn a profit following that.
