The County partnered with Alberta Recycling Management Authority is putting on the annual recycling roundup at the Clairmont Centre.
Spokesperson, Jennifer Besinger says paints and other hazardous items can be disposed of for free.
“The electronics, batteries, oils, we except propane tanks as well, 60 pounds or under. We have a bottle donation trailer there, so you can bring your empty bottles, that goes into a different program but by all means, it can be a one stop shop. Bring it all and we will process it as it needs to go.”
She says, if these products aren’t properly disposed of, it can contaminate the landfill.
“Recycling is very beneficial in that all of the parts get reused. It’s a safety factor for parts that go into the landfill, some of them are quite dangerous when they are decomposing in the landfill. With the household hazardous waste, some of the chemicals that come in can be quite dangerous if mixed as well, so we like to keep them separated and everybody safe.”
The event will also have prize giveaways, including a BBQ and a home composting unit. It runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday.
