Young skateboarders in the region could soon have to wear a helmet while boarding.
Councillor Kevin McLean recommended the City consider making it a bylaw for youth to wear a helmet, as bikers under 18 are enforced to do.
“I thought instead of always being opposed, I’ll try to do a proactive approach and bring a resolution to AUMA so that all children in Alberta under the age of 18, if they’re on a skate board in a skate park within any city or town, that they should wear a helmet.”
The City also has grants in place to help families who can’t afford helmets to be purchased for those kids in need.
City Administration will research ways to implement the use of helmets for kids at skate parks and bring those recommendations back to council.
