A half million dollar donation was made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation over the weekend.
The $500,000 came from the Macklin and Gordon families Saturday, in memory of I.V. Macklin, the city’s first school teacher.
His son Arthur says his father was interested in public welfare.
“He promoted public education, public healthcare and cooperative economics where people benefitted rather than the big private individuals.”
The money will be held in a legacy fund to buy equipment for the new hospital slated to open in 2019.
There will be a plaque in the new hospital’s auditorium to mark the donation.
