Some local business people have plans to open an indoor shooting range in Grande Prairie.
Bullets and Broadheads Shooting Centre would also include an archery range and axe throwing. It would be in a building located on the west side of Grande Prairie (pictured above) near the ATCO offices.
Co-owner Linley Coward says similar facilities elsewhere are not only popular, but a benefit to the community.
“We’re going to be hosting tournaments, charity events, things like that, because we’re really community-focused. We moved here from Valleyview a year ago, so we’re from the North and we’re passionate about the North and our communities.”
She adds they hope to open by the end of the year.
“It is quite a process because of the regulations that need to happen for the range. There’s concrete forms that have to be done to maintain the government standards. So, that’s a bit of a process, as well as bringing the ranges up and getting them made.”
Co-owner Robin Coward says the idea now has to go to the Chief Firearms Officer for Canada.
“There’s very stringent regulations that have to happen for a gun range to be opened and we have met all of those with the municipality. So, the next step for us is to go to the Chief Firearms Officer and get their permission as well.”
There would also be chances for people from the RCMP and military to train at the facility.
