Grande Prairie will be opening an office for the 2018 Alberta Summer Games.
The office will be located in the old Leisure Centre and will open June 27.
The opening will kick off a series of Games related events that will take place across the region over the next year.
The Games will be held from July 19-22, 2018 and will bring over 2,600 youth athletes to our region to compete in 13 different sports.
“Our community has a proud legacy of hosting major sporting and cultural events,” says Mayor Bill Given. “We look forward to work with the Host Society, the County of Grande Prairie and our army of community volunteers to welcome young athletes from across the province next year.”
Reeve Leanne Beaupre says the County of Grande Prairie is looking forward to co-hosting this event, as it provides aspiring, talented young athletes the opportunity to compete.
“Our region is known for our hospitality, volunteerism and community spirit, so we encourage residents to get involved whether it’s volunteering a bit of their time to help host the games, or cheering for local athletes along the sidelines.”
The Phillip J Currie Dinosaur Museum has also officially partnered with the Games, and will host the opening ceremonies.
