A Peace Country tradition returns this weekend.
The 47th Wanham Plowing Match will run today through Sunday.
Publicity Director Larissa Parliament says a lot of hard work has kept the event going.
“It’s taken a lot of work from a lot of really dedicated volunteers. A lot of people from the community just come together and they make it happen. A lot of people from the surrounding area are very generous with their sponsorships and supporting the event.”
She adds it draws volunteers from several places.
“Those people that come out to help, we get quite a few people from surrounding communities, for sure, and then we also a lot of people that attend the event from surrounding areas, so it’s always a great help.”
Parliament says a couple well-known politicians will be there to compete Saturday.
“New this year, we have the Wildrose MLA for Grande Prairie-Smoky Todd Loewen, him and the Wildrose Leader of the Opposition Brian Jean are taking part in a horse-drawn walking plow competition. That’s Saturday at 4 o’clock.”
Today’s events start at 9 a.m. and go all day. There is PBR bull riding tonight at 7:30.
