Grande Prairie’s Sears store will be among those closing after the retailer announced plans to shut down 59 locations.
The store will be closing on October 5, 2017.
“The decision to close this store is part of the actions we need to take at this time, but it has nothing to do with the quality of our staff there who have been a great team and have provided excellent service to Sears customers in Grande Prairie for several years, and we will miss them within the Sears family,” explained Vincent Power with Sears Canada.
Canada-wide about 2,900 jobs will be cut as part of its plan to restructure its business under court protection from creditors.
Power says there are currently 111 associates at our Grande Prairie store, most of which are part-time.
Sears Canada plans to complete the restructuring as soon as possible this year.
There’s no word yet on when the local store will close its doors, but Power says they will have a liquidation sale as they begin to clear out the inventory.
We will have more details on the local closure as they become available.
