Heading into the Canada Day long weekend the Wildrose Party is out with an interactive map highlighting the most dangerous highway sections in the province.
Grande Prairie-Smoky MLA Todd Loewen says a section east of Grande Prairie made the list.
“Between DeBolt and Valleyview there were 16 fatal collisions between 2005 and 2014 so it is tied for the fourth most dangerous highway section in Alberta.”
Highway 40 south of the city did not make the map but Loewen says it is also considered a dangerous stretch of highway.
“Highway 40 needs to have improvements, we need to get that problem taken care of. You know even when the oil industry is slow Highway 40 is still very busy and obviously if things pick up it will just get worse.”
He hopes this information will push the NDP government to make improvements to area highways.
