Close to 200 horses are already stabled at Evergreen Park for this year’s horse races.
Evergreen Park Racing Club Manager Norm Tremblay says his group is thrilled to be bringing its two horses home to race.
“It’s a little bit of a journey to go to Edmonton for a race that’s two minutes or five minutes of racing involved with the post parade and all that,” said Tremblay. “Our members are coming down to Evergreen Park here and we’d watch on Simulcast lots of us.”
Tremblay also said one of his group’s two horses should be running this weekend.
“We’re running our new horse a three-year-old gelding named Dman Doughty, named after defensemen Drew Doughty from the LA Kings,” said Tremblay. “He’s a California-bred. He’s won two races in his life.”
Racing will start Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and run every weekend through August 27.
The Alberta Derby and The GP Derby will be July 30.
