The ponies are back at Evergreen Park.
The new season of horse racing gets going Saturday night.
Evergreen Park Racing Manager Pat Hill says they moved the opening date to Saturday from Friday to accommodate horse people coming here from down south.
“Lethbridge finishes on a Sunday, and it is really hard for them to travel with four or five loads of horses and get up here and get organized. So we decided that we would give up our Friday night for that.”
Hill says they are hoping more families will come out to the races.
“For our opening weekend, we have upped all of the stuff that we are doing for the kids. We have approached some of the local sponsors to do the kids scramble, so they have given us boxes of candy. So we will go around with a basket when we start out and will be throwing candy and giving out cups to put the candy into. It’s a really good thing for the little people.”
Post time tonight is 6:30. Admission is free. The racing season will run every weekend through July and August.
