A big wind storm Friday evening did some damage on a couple Peace Region places.
Tim Terita says a huge wind blew into his place on top of a hill near Webster Road and Range Road 43 around 7:30 that evening.
“It broke trees off. Two of our horse shelters in our field, it was like somebody just flicked them with a finger and they just disappeared, just blew up basically from wind. The roof from one is about an eighth of a mile from where it originally was and the other bigger, heavier one with the tack room just kind of lifted up, moved about 40 feet and landed on it’s roof.”
He adds both were anchored, but still got blown away.
“Both of them, I had rebar pounded through the skids of both the shelters six-and-a-half feet into the ground and there was eight on each side, so 16 of them in the ground and it just peeled them away like they’re nothing.”
Terita says the wind took the roof off a machine shed at his in-laws place a half-mile away and blew that roof about 100 feet.
No people or animals were hurt. There were some horses by the shelters, but they ran away across a field.
Terita says he and his family were out on their deck that evening when the wind suddenly shifted.
“I was fighting, trying to get our door shut. The wind was so strong, I could barely shut our door. We got in the house and then I turned around and both these sheds just disappeared. I don’t know exactly what it was, whether it was just like a crazy, weird wind or a tornado or what.”
Terita says it was like somebody “switched a fan on” when the wind shifted and started blowing very hard. He adds this is the most bizarre wind he has seen in a dozen years living at his place.
