The City of Grande Prairie is getting two new trails this summer as a result of the 2017 Trail Program.
The new trails will be located north of the 68 Avenue storm pond, east of 116 Street, and on 92 Street linking the neighbourhoods of Country Side North and Creekside.
A third trail, located at the south side of the Bear Creek Reservoir, is also under rehabilitation.
Project Technologist Jill McCord says the trails will provide access to lots of green spaces, safe passages along the sides of our local roads and be a safe place for people to walk.
McCord also said the trail on 92 Street is a highly anticipated and requested installation for pedestrians.
“There’s virtually no pedestrian accommodation along that rural cross section of 92 Street and there’s a lot of pedestrian traffic that travels north/south along 92 and we want to provide them safe passage,” said McCord.
The trail being built north of the 68 Avenue storm pond is going to be a small connection around the backside of the pond.
“It’s just a quick internal link around the storm pond there,” said McCord. “It’s just literally from 69 Avenue and 116 Street to 69A Avenue and 115A Street.”
Construction on all three trails is scheduled to be completed by late August. There are no anticipated traffic disruptions.
