Upgrades to the Bear Creek pool are underway.
City Manager of Recreation and Sport Kylee Haining says some demolition work is being done first.
“We’re retaining about 85 percent of the existing pool, but the surrounding deck had to be removed and then the little section that makes way for Spanish Stairs and the Zero Beach. Last I was there, which was about a week-and-a-half ago, they were working on demolishing the floor within the actual change-room space.”
New plumbing and in-floor heating will be going in the change room.
Haining adds they are hoping to have a lay-out in place by next Thursday.
“So we can see where the Tots Pool will be and where the water slide will be and the foot print of the structure for all of us to see.”
Most of the existing building will also be retained
“The building itself is a block structure and all of that and where the walls are within that block structure stays exactly the same. We designed in order to not have to change any of that.”
All the work should be complete by next summer. The new facility will include two pools, one a shallow one for little kids, plus several other new features. More information can be found here.
