A huge community effort made sure more than 110 people, mostly kids, got to have summer camp as planned over the weekend.
The campers from all over Alberta ended up coming to the Peace Country after their original destination in BC was closed because of a wildfire.
With just three days notice, 70 volunteers marshaled and over $10,000 in gift-in-kind donations were collected.
The group stayed at the PRBI dorms in Sexsmith, got their picture taken with the Stanley Cup and visited a bunch of local facilities, South Bear, GPRC and the Eastlink Centre among them.
Organizers are hoping the campers from the Young Life group for teenagers take a positive impression of Grande Prairie and the Peace Country back to their home communities.
