The final push is on for construction of new stores at Prairie Mall.
Soon, new stores taking over the old Target space will begin to open. It will be split into a dozen units, three of them large and the rest smaller in size.
“We essentially have the larger units filled. Again, that includes Marshalls, Urban Planet, and Ardene is planning to open up later this fall. We’re still in negotiations for the smaller units, but we’re certainly hoping the latter part of this year, or spring of next year, we’re going to see a lot more openings,” said Lionel Frey, Prairie Mall General Manager.
When it comes to suggestions from the public, there has been no shortage of opinions both on the street and through social media.
“There’s certainly some retailers that customers would be excited to have locate here. I’m not saying it’s out of the question. Like I say, we’ve been in discussions with some of those merchants, and hopefully we can secure some deals here soon,” Frey said.
He adds things are picking up at the mall, a sign our economy is rebounding.
“We’re seeing it even now, and even prior to the last couple of weeks, we have seen a pickup in traffic and sales figures here at the mall. I think, with the new addition coming, that will certainly enhance that, as a lot of people are curious to see what the new wing looks like.”
Urban Planet plans to open late next week. Marshalls intends to open on August 22.
