The Grovedale Fire Department has some safety reminders for River Float attendees.
It is happening Saturday, starting at O’Brien Park and is being organized by a public group through Facebook.
Fire Chief Shawn Clarke says everyone needs to wear a life jacket, no matter the age.
“There’s a lot of dangerous aspects to it. There are points on the river, points were people get hung up and with water temperatures and high heats, things can happen and whether they are strong swimmers or not it is just something you should have on yourself.”
He adds people also should wear bright clothing, stay hydrated and bring extra supplies.
“Make sure to bring extra clothing, if the weather changes drastically for some reason then you are well prepared. It does take approximately four hours to float from O’Brien Park to Magoo’s so it is a lengthy little float.”
