A dive team from Prince George, B.C. has been called in today to help with the search of a missing 15-year-old swimmer.
Friday around 8:35 p.m., Spirit River RCMP were called to the Smoky River, about 10 km downstream from the Watino Bridge for reports of a missing swimmer.
Witnesses told police the teen was swimming with a group when he got caught in the undercurrent and was pulled under. They said he came back up, started drifting down the river and went under again. That was the last time the witnesses saw him.
RCMP from Spirit River, McLennan, Peace River and Grande Prairie along with Search and Rescue from Peace River and Eaglesham Fire Department, all responded to the call.
Sgt. Jack Poitras said Sunday the search was ongoing and a dive team was on its way. He said a helicopter had also been helping with the search.
We will have more information as it becomes available.
