Due to the hot summer weather we have been experiencing, our fire hazard level has increased.
The wildfire hazard for Grande Prairie Forest Area is now high, and Barry Shellian, Wildfire Information Officer with Alberta Wildfires, says a fire advisory was also put in place this afternoon.
“So, this means no new fire permits will be issued, but any existing fire permits are still valid. Safe campfires are still allowed,” said Shellian. “And the fire advisory will remain in effect until significant precipitation is received.”
Shellian also says all human caused fires are preventable.
“We want the public to remember to check the hot spots on any OHV’s, off highway vehicles, remove debris before and after use. Never to leave their campfire unattended. To soak it, stir it and soak it again until it is cool to touch and make sure that it is extinguished,” added Shellian.
