A Brier and world curling champion will be saluted in his hometown next Saturday, August 19.
Geoff Walker will be in the town parade in Beaverlodge and be at a meet and greet at the town barbecue.
The Brier Tankard will also be in Beaverlodge for the festivities and there will be a banner unveiling at the Beaverlodge curling rink.
Walker says before all that, he will be in Moncton this week to get ready for the season.
“Start getting our legs under us for the season, because we start here at the end of August. We have an earlier start this year, with it being an Olympic year. Everybody’s going to start getting on the ice a little early, a couple weeks earlier than normal.”
That first event of the season will be the Everest Curling Challenge August 25 through 27 in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
“It’s going to be mixed teams. We’re going to be playing with some different teammates. That’s going to be interesting, but it should be good for the first event of the year.”
