Mayor Bill Given is back from AUMA meetings in Edmonton.
He is part of the Municipal Governance Committee and says they are reviewing the second set of regulations related to the Municipal Government Act.
“There’s a regulation related to Code of Conduct for elected officials, there’s another regulation related to council and committee meetings and how that’s defined and there is also a regulation related to determining population counts and in Grande Prairie’s context that is very important as we start to think about what a shadow population count might look like.”
He says while the Act has been passed, the government wants input on the regulations that are not finalized yet.
“In terms of Grande Prairie’s input into that process, I have a bit of direct input through my involvement on this AUMA committee and so the AUMA will send a position on behalf of all of the urban municipalities across the province. The City of Grande Prairie is also developing our own individual position that we will submit before that deadline as well.”
That deadline is September 22nd.
