On August 22, a Municipal Election Candidate Information Session is being hosted by the County.
The session will be held at the County Administration Building at 6 p.m.
Bill Rogan, County Administrator, says the session will be a Q&A open house forum, and their staff will be there to answer any questions.
“If you’re interested, they’ll be able to explain the time commitment, how council is compensated, what, perhaps, the expectations are of attending events away from council meetings, the various committees council sits on and your potential obligation to sit on one or more of those committees,” said Rogan.
Rogan also said those interested need to complete a nomination package.
“Well, you of course have to have your required number of residents supporting you, just ID declaring you are a county resident, your address of course, it’s fairly basic information,” said Rogan.
Nomination Day is September 18, and packages must be handed in that day between 10 a.m. and noon sharp in-person at the County Administration Building.
If you are interested but unable to attend the session, you can contact the Legislative Services Manager at the County Office or attend a similar forum being put on by Municipal Affairs. Their session will be in September for anyone running in any of the communities, not just County.
“[We’re] just trying to encourage participation and hope if you’re interested in running you’d take the time to come out and gain a little more information, so there’s no surprises should you be successful,” said Rogan.
Election Day is October 16, 2017.
