Needle safety will be the focus of September’s Lunch and Learn event put on by Grande Prairie Crime Prevention.
HIV North Executive Director Melissa Byers hopes their presentation will create awareness around needle debris and clean up.
“What to look for, how to check an area, how to properly dispose of needles, and what to do if you get a needle-stick injury,” she explained.
Their hope is to get on top of the situation before it worsens.
“We definitely are finding needles out in the community, they’re kind-of targeted in certain areas, they’re not spread out everywhere.”
She says those common areas tend to be parks and around city centre.
There are currently nine needle disposal bins located within the city and they’re looking to set up more in areas where they are finding most of the debris.
The presentation goes September 12 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at City on 99, and is free to attend.
You are asked to pre-register by calling 780-882-7813 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org as space is limited.
