It is being called a chance to get leaders together to help put an end to domestic violence.
Breakfast with the Guys is set for Hallowe’en morning at GPRC.
Committee member Mike Anderson says this is an awareness event.
“Where we shine a light on any domestic violence and sexual degradation against women and how we all play a role in our groups and stuff like that, with our friends, our family, our personal and professional lives. It just shows everybody that little things can make a big difference and big impact.”
He adds it is open to both men and women.
“We try and get coaches, athletes, business professionals there. We strongly encourage women to come as well, because sometimes these social norms are so ingrained in our fabric of our society that we don’t necessarily know they’re there and that’s what the event shines a light on, that some of this stuff maybe is, or it is inappropriate.”
Anderson says it can be hard to change attitudes.
“I think if anybody wants to challenge any social norm., regardless of what it is, I think it’s just starting with the question of, you know, ‘Hey, is this appropriate?’. That, if we ask that question, you know, ‘Is this appropriate?’, it just opens up the door to have a discussion.”
Breakfast with the Guys starts at 7 a.m. on October 31. It will be held At GPRC next to Howler’s Lounge. It is free to attend. Anyone interested can register here.
