People in the Municipal District of Greenview will soon have their own recreational complex. The Greenview Regional Multiplex is set to open to the public in mid-November.
Manager Michelle Richardson explains that the MD and the Town of Valleyview are footing most of the $3.6 million bill. Community members from the area raised $1.6 million towards the facility.
“It should be able to serve the town of Valleyview and the Municipal District of Greenview as well as the whole surrounding area. Anybody that is interested in coming to check it out or any of the programming is definitely welcome.”
The building is still in the construction phase with plans for a fieldhouse, indoor pool with lazy river, gymnastics room, dance rooms, birthday room, conference rooms, and other amenities. According to Richardson, the idea was sparked about seven years ago because of dwindling resources in the area.
“One of the driving factors behind the idea of the multiplex, our Gymnastics Club had run out of places to host gymnastics and the current fitness centre, they needed a new space.”
She says the closest place to swim indoors in the area is at the Eastlink Centre in Grande Prairie which is an approximately hour drive from the Valleyview area.
The two municipalities will operate the facility and admission fees have been posted on the building’s Facebook page.
