A pair of judo athletes from Grande Prairie is part of Team Alberta at a national event this weekend and another next weekend.
Sydney Kinderwater (pictured left) and Michelle Grisales (pictured right) are competing at the Quebec Open this weekend and the Ontario Open next Saturday and Sunday.
Carlos Grisales, the Head Coach at the local Hoku Sei Kan Judo Club, says there will also be some high-level training in between.
“It’s going to be in Montreal, the tournament. Then, from Monday to Friday, they’re going to have (some) national training, so they’re going to meet all the best people who train judo in Canada.”
He adds close to 50 kids in Grande Prairie and Wembley take part in judo.
“So, all the kids that are behind Michelle and Sydney, (they have) expectations, looking up and seeing (them and saying) maybe in a couple years, I’m going to do that, too.”
