KidSport provides support to children 18 years and younger in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport. KidSport Alberta’s Aboriginal Sport Initiative (ASI) is working on increasing awareness of the KidSport program in Aboriginal communities and creating more sport opportunities for Aboriginal Youth in Alberta.
With the support of Cenovus Energy , a provincial partner of KidSport Alberta, a Sport Sampler event for the Aboriginal youth in Grande Prairie will be hosted on June 23, 2012 at the GPRC gym 10am-3pm intended for ages 8-12/13-16 for the Peace Region.
Our Sport Sampler will feature a diverse selection of team sports including several individual events supervised by local players and volunteer coaches. This year will feature basketball, volleyball, soccer and Dene/Arctic games. Subway, another KidSport Alberta provincial partner, will be providing lunch on the day for all participants.
These events are part of the KidSport Alberta Aboriginal Sport Initiative, and provide youth with the opportunity to “sample” a variety of different sports while also learning about funding available through their local KidSport chapter. In addition to support from Cenovus Energy, the Sport Sampler events series is made possible because of the partnership and cooperation of the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks & Wildlife Foundation’s Alberta Future Leaders program, as well as local KidSport volunteer chapters across Alberta.
