The NHL playoffs begin tonight (Wednesday) and that could mean big business for local businesses.
Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce Chair Dennis Bell says the games could have a huge impact on the local economy.
“I believe it will be a huge impact this year with the way things are coming together and you know, this is what these businesses plan for, for these events like this with big screen t.v’s and some of the things they do.”
Bell thinks an improving economy will make people more likely to go out to watch hockey.
“The economy helps for sure, it has improved somewhat in the last year, so that combined with five Canadian teams involved in the playoffs, you know, we are proud Canadians and it’s our game so it is going to be perty exciting.”
No Canadian teams made the post-season last year.
Tonight the San Jose Sharks are in Edmonton, the Montreal Canadiens host the New York Rangers and Ottawa welcomes Boston.
