The president of the local Métis Association is back from the first Métis Nation-Crown Summit in Ottawa.
Angie Crerar was there for the signing of the Canada-Métis Nation Accord with the Prime Minister.
“What this means for all of us is that this is our journey to reconciliation and to take our rightful place in society.”
She says she was humbled and proud to be asked to the summit to say the opening and closing prayer and it means a lot to her.
“The most significant thing for me is to honour my grandfather and my dad who worked so hard and always believed that some day we would come into our own rights like we are a nation of Métis people.”
She says they will be working with federal ministers to set priorities and develop policies.
