We are just over a month away from the 40th edition of Stompede.
Local chuckwagon driver Mitch Sutherland says it should be an advantage to start the season at home.
“It gives you an extra week or two to make sure you’ve got all of your stuff packed. I guess it could go for you or against you, but it’s certainly nice to start out at home, in front of your own crowd.”
Fellow Grande Prairie driver Mike Vigen also likes starting at home.
“There’s no travel to begin with and (you) go down to the fairgrounds and it’s huge, it’s a big boost to every driver that comes here. There’s always such big crowds here and they’re so supportive. It just sets you up for the whole year and that’s something to look forward to.”
This year’s Stompede will run May 31 through June 4.
