The local PC MLA is hoping the meeting between the Agriculture Minister and Team Alberta consisting of Alberta Barley, the Alberta Wheat Commission and the Canola Producers and Pulse Growers Associations goes well today (Wednesday).
They are meeting to discuss the current situation many farmers are facing with last season’s crop still on the field.
Wayne Drysdale says he has never seen anything this bad.
“It just seems to be getting worse, you know if it would have dried up here three weeks ago and they could have got out early and got them off would of helped as well but now they’ve been sitting there wet, laying there wet for the last three weeks I’m afraid when the sun does start to shine they are all going to start to sprout and start growing.”
He says this is definitely a disaster and doesn’t know what the government can do to help.
“You can’t say to the government what are you going to do if you don’t even know your self what you need or what can do.”
Drysdale says he will be following up with the minister to see how the meeting went and if any decisions were made.
