The Canada Games flag relay marking the 50th anniversary of the games has arrived in Grande Prairie.
There will be a flag rising ceremony Friday at the City hall at 11:45 this morning.
In conjunction with Canada 150 Signature project, the unique flag is travelling across Canada to each of the past host communities, before stopping in Winnipeg for the 2017 Canada Summer Games on July 28th.
Mayor Bill Given says it’s an honour to have the flag in the community.
“The 1995 Canada Winter Games were really a monumental opportunity for Grande Prairie and I think it really set the tone for us entering the national stage, gave a lot of pride to our community. The opportunity to reconnect once again with the Canada Games movement by hosting the flag is a great opportunity. ”
The 2017 Canada Games Flag began its journey in Quebec City on February 11th to mark the first Games in 1967.
