If you’re heading out to Grande Prairie Stompede, you’ll likely notice many RCMP and County Peace Officers.
Stu Rempel, Superintendent in charge of Regional Enforcement Services for the County of Grande Prairie, says they’ll have all hands on deck helping to ensure the 40th edition of Stompede is a safe one.
“We have three RCMP enhanced police officers dedicated to work the event and four County Peace Officers. And then we’ve brought in a number of overtime RCMP members that are going to be floating on the site to make sure that it’s safe, and that drinking and fighting and all the rowdyism that tends to occur is kept to an absolute minimum.”
They’ll also be checking for those sneaking into the parking lot and mixing their own drinks.
“There is the drinking and driving. There’s the mixing of alcohol, where people sneak out in parking lots, and otherwise. There’s the odd stunting, and of course, in and around the midway your’re mixing youth sometimes with a criminal element,” Rempel said.
There will also be an RCMP command centre on site just in front of the ENTREC Centre.
