Update 3:50 p.m.: We just received a call from Grande Cache RCMP that the Highway is now OPEN.
A mudslide is affecting motorists along Highway 40.
The mudslide happened not far from Grande Cache.
“It’s approximately 10 kilometres north. It’s right before the s-curves and Grande Cache Coal. It is impassable,” said Erin Bojeski with Grande Cache RCMP.
It is not certain when the highway will be re-opened. It’s being estimated the closure could last for as long as 10 hours.
Bojeski suggests those coming from that way towards Grande Prairie head back to Hinton, as that is the most viable alternate route.
