UFA is saluting farmers today.
The second Friday in June is Farmer’s Day.
The UFA Petroleum Agency and Farm and Ranch Store will be hosting a BBQ today from 11 to 2.
Store Manager Rod Suter says UFA wants to salute farmers, especially after the tough weather lately.
“To honour the men and women who keep this AG industry strong and vibrant. It’s a Farmer’s Day to let our members know that we really care about them, that they mean everything to us. It’s definitely been a rough go last fall, this spring. We’re hoping that we can do what we can (to show farmers) that we know that they go through some difficult times and we do what we can to give them a hand.”
Suter says there has been a lot of progress with finishing harvest and planting the new crop.
” (In) Cleaning up last year’s crop, things are looking pretty good. As far as seeding, it has actually gone better. My understanding, in talking to our crop representatives, is that seeding has actually gone quite well. There has had to be some re-seeding of crop already and some farmers have had to change varieties.”
Suter says the re-seeding was done in wet areas.
In Grande Prairie, a BBQ will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Petroleum Agency and Farm and Ranch Store. It will move inside if it is raining.
