On Wednesday South Bear Creek Park cut the ribbon to unveil their newly expanded and renovated facilities.
The $2.3 million investment re-opened Bear Paw Golf Course, added and improved baseball diamonds, updated the pavilion to make it a year-round facility and improved the camp grounds.
Mayor Bill Given said the upgrades have been a long time coming and that the entire facility has been reinvigorated.
“It means the community has another high-quality venue that we can be proud of and really it’s not so much about the physical place as it is about the memories that people will develop as they come here and enjoy the space,” said Mayor Given.
South Bear Creek Park Manager Kirsten Maher said the park has always been well used, but it did not get a lot of improvements in the past.
“I think people just accepted it for what it was and with the support from council we’ve been able to add life to it,” said Maher. “It’s a really positive place to be, it’s a place where families can come and enjoy themselves, and it almost has a new life to it like it’s a new facility.”
There is also still a parking lot that is under construction to add more parking spaces for visitors.
