Energy company SemCAMS says it has applied to the Alberta Energy Regulator to build a new sour gas processing facility in the area south of Wembley.
The new plant would process 280 million cubic feet per day of sour gas. It would connect to existing gas transportation through a new pipeline, an application for which would go to the AER later.
The plant would remove sulphur from the gas to make it sell-able. SemCAMS is promising there would be no emissions.
It says preliminary engineering work is underway. Whether the project will go ahead would depend on regulatory approval and making a deal with a natural gas producer.
This plant would operate in the same way as the Wapiti Gas Plant that is already under construction. It is set to begin operating in 2019.
