The City is paying tribute to one of its longest running councillors by re-naming part of a facility after her.
Helen Rice will not be running in the October municipal election after sitting almost continuously since 1979.
Revolution Place Plaza will be re-named the H.A. Rice Plaza.
“When your friends and your co-workers say the kind of complimentary things they said, it is very humbling. It makes you realize how truly lucky you are to have worked with, and be friends with this quality of people,” said Rice. “After 38 years, there are hundreds of great memories.”
Rice has managed the Downtown Association of Grande Prairie since 1999, has served as a board member on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and served as president of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Board.
An official plaque and naming ceremony will be held at a later date. It will be done in conjunction with a book launch featuring Rice.
