It has been just over a year since the Block Parent program made a return to Grande Prairie and they are still looking for members.
Doug Christian, Chairman of the Grande Prairie and Area Block Parent Association, says it has been a learning experience.
“We’ve found some speed bumps that we’ve worked to overcome with the assistance from the City of Grande Prairie and the local RCMP detachment. I think we now have a firm hand on how the program is going to operate in the city and we can move forward with getting as many people into it as want to be part of our safety network.”
He says they have 11 members to date with 35 in the application process and the goal is to have ten percent of the city’s population sign up to be a block parent home.
The association shut down in 2014 and re-opened in the summer of 2016.
The group’s Annual General Meeting is tonight.
